In 1833, he removed to Chicago, and, in June, 1836, he became the founder of Manitowoc, purchasing about 2,000 acres of land in that locality, and near there, and exerted himself to build up the town, of which he was the foster-father. He was foreman for the Waldorf Paper Company, St. Paul, for several years, and was also associated with the Northern Pump Company for five years before he retired.
